Group
4 hours per day, 20 hours per week:
Having students speak in class is a core aspect of our methodology. That's why there is a maximum of just six students in a group class- the lowest in the industry! We always aim to fine-tune the formation of groups based on the level of the students, suing the results of the online placement exam. This helps to reduce the differences in language proficiency between the students
Group+ 6 hours per day, 30 hours per week*
As an alternative to taking just a private or group course, we offer the option of our Group+ course, which many students take advantage of. This allows the student to combine a Group course with two hours of private lessons per day. This course not only improves general communication skills, but in the private sessions, the curriculum can also be tailored to meet the student´s specific needs or interests. For example, if the student is interested in learning specific vocabulary and expressions used in business, law, or medicine, etc., he or she can focus on those topics during the afternoon private classes.
* If there are fewer than three students in the class, the group hours are reduced from 20 to 15 per week.
Private Instruction
For our private students, a special curriculum is tailor-designed based on an assessment of the student’s language needs, interests, and the results of the online placement test. In order to properly determine these needs and interests, we recommend that the student fill out our Needs Assessment Survey (see Supplements)s so that we may design the curriculum accordingly. Depending upon the intensity of the program, the student will be assigned two or three instructors during the course. The main advantages of private inst4ruction are the following:
- The student learns at his/her own pace, not that of the other students in a group class.
- The student can choose the number of hours to study per day.
- The student has flexibility in scheduling classes, morning or afternoon, all in one block or with a break in between.
- Because the student is alone in class, he/she will be speaking and thinking more in Spanish. Consequently, the student will learn faster and cover more material in a shorter period of time.
Although we have structured our private courses into Private 4 (four hours per day, 20 hours per week) and Private 6 (six hours per day, 30 hours per week), the student is welcome to choose the number of hours per day of study (a minimum of one hour per day)
Immersion 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week (including lunch with the instructor)
If your student wants instant results, this is the course to choose! An Immersion course consists of eight hours of individual instruction per day, including lunch with the teacher. As in all private instruction at our Partner School, a special curriculum is tailor-designed based on as assessment of the student´s language need, interests, and the results of the placement test. In order to perperly determine these needs and interests, we recommend that the student fill out our Nees Assessment Survey, so that we may design the curriculum accordingly. A team of instructors will then keep the student immersed (thinking and speaking) in Spanish all day.
Here is an example of a typical day of Immersion:
9:00 am – 11:00 am: A review of what you learned the previous day and then on to a new lesson! Presentation and controlled practice of new vocabulary and structures, always in a “real life” context. Aural comprehension work using our Partner School´s exclusive DVD´s.
11:00 am – 12:30 pm: Recap of new material and then fluency practice. The idea is for students to be able to use what they learned in “ real life” situations through role-plays, debates, activities, etc.. Students are given the chance to be creative with their newly-learned skills.
12:30 pm – 2:00 pm: Time for lunch at a nearby restaurant with your instructor, all in Spanish. A chance to “relax” a bit in a less formal atmosphere, but all the while practicing newly-acquired skills. During this time students also become familiar with typical Chilean cuisine like Cazuela, empanadas and Pastel de choclo.
2:00 pm – 3:30 pm: No, it's not time for a nap! Grab a cup of coffee and let's see a short segment of La Frontera, a well-known Chilean film. Students learn new vocabulary and discuss the cultural differences between their native country and Chile Aural skills are fine-tuned using the authentic language in the film.
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm: A review of all new material learned. More fluency practice through cultural discussions, debates, and role-plays. Readings of supplementary texts and optional written essays are done for homework. As an option you may also elect to take a short excursion with your teacher to practice what you have been learning in “the real world” outside of the classroom.
