| Cordoba is Argentina's second largest city after Buenos Aires and is the most important city in the central area of the country. Founded in 1573, Cordoba boasts a university that was founded by the Jesuits in 1622. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in all of Latin America. Geographically, Cordoba is located right in the center of Argentina, in a scenic area between the mountains and the plains. Although there has been much development and modernization in Cordoba in recent years, there are still expansive areas with historically significant buildings and locations, as well as great colonial era architecture. Some of the famous historic buildings in Cordoba include "El Cabildo", the 17th century Town Hall and Jesuit Iglesia de la Compañía, which is the oldest church in Argentina - dating back to 1622. Cordoba is well known throughout this region of Argentina as a great center for cultural activities and nightlife. Because Cordoba is a modern city with a lot of history to offer and is also an excellent base for exploring the nearby Andes, the city is a popular location for conventions and language schools.
The climate in Cordoba is generally very mild and humid in the spring. Summer weather is hot with daily thunderstorms. Fall is drier than the spring and summer seasons, though it remains quite warm. Winter is the driest season in Cordoba, and is much cooler.
