The City of Guadalajara

Guadalajara is the second most populous city and follows only Mexico City in economic importance. It was founded by the Spanish in 1542 and has been known as "The City of Roses" or "The Pearl of the West" by locals and visitors. Many reasons exist why people from around the world embrace this city, which is located only a few hours by car from Puerto Vallarta, the popular Mexican beach resort. Generally, the city is located in western Mexico, in the state of Jalisco, of which it is the capital.

The climate is conducive to enjoying the city year-round. It rarely gets too hot or too cool, with temperatures averaging 75 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. Sprinkled throughout Guadalajara are a number of colonial buildings, theaters, churches, parks and interesting museums. Perhaps the best-known example of colonial architecture in the city is the cathedral, which is marked by two golden spires. Beautiful plazas occupy the city's historic center, and the neoclassical Teatro Degollado is another important landmark. Famous murals by a well-known painter can be visited in the Palacio del Gobierno.

The rich history and culture of the city make it a fine place to stay and learn Spanish. Students always have the opportunity to spend time in the city practicing their Spanish with vendors, residents and other students. The people have a reputation for being warm and friendly. All of these reasons combine to make the city a center for culture in western Mexico.

While remaining one of the most traditional cities in Mexico, Guadalajara also has all of the modern conveniences that ensure a high level of comfort for visitors. The city plays hosts to a number of festivals throughout the year. For a list of events in the area, search here. It also attracts political, academic, social and artistic events from around the world. If that's not enough, the city played a leading role in the creation of both mariachi music and tequila.

With over 475 years of tradition in its history, Guadalajara is certainly a suitable place for studying Spanish. It's a place where the modern world meets the legends of the past. Modern events and conventions, such as the Pan American Games, which came to the city in 2011, exist side by side with pieces of the colonial era.

The Charity Mission of IMAC

We give back to the community in several important ways. A primary mission is to eliminate cultural barriers through the learning of languages. As one of the recognized leaders in Latin American language schools, we have reached out to help those in need. Our work with the organization Caritas is focused on helping people with illnesses and disabilities, as well as providing aid to the poor. It is our goal to not only help students excel in learning Spanish but also to do our part in improving our world. That is why we provide Caritas with charity work and donations.

Here at IMAC, we know that our success is dependent on those who have given us a chance to be a part of their linguistic growth. Because of this, we know how important it is to do our part and give others a chance to reach their potential.
